Alex - thanks for the video. I added it to an entry I wrote about open innovation.

I work with the Business Innovation Factory and one of our Research Advisors is Larry Huston, who is the former VP of Innovation at P&G and father of the company's Connect + Develop business model. There are varying degrees of openness and throwing open the doors for collaborative innovation with anyone, anywhere is not the answer.

It's important to define the criteria for accessing large networks and targeting plays a key role. For P&G, often times, it means passing on a lot of great ideas. Larry talks often about how companies need to get really clear on what they're looking for and how value gets created. When he was at P&G, he only looked for things with a pedigree -- solutions that solve a consumer problem and are ready to go. Without proof of concept, they wouldn't move forward. In other words, constraints are good!

Feel free to contact me anytime. It looks like we share similar interests. As a non-profit, we've established a community of business model innovators looking to change how value is created in several key sectors.
